The Last Dance

I felt a little tear trickle down my moisturised cheek. I forcefully pull my head up to stare into my wife's eyes to see her feeling the same pain I’m encountering. I see her beautiful sea blue eyes trying to hold back the pain. Her head slowly digs into my shoulder as if asking me to comfort her. Her beautiful white gown rhythmically sways from side to side. Out of the corner of my eye I see that the house is feeling the same sorrow as everyone else. A dim light flickers through the window. A dull wind whips my tears making them harshly cold. The curtains dance in the breeze to the solomn music. Finally a comforting but heart breaking tempo echo’s throughout the cold empty room. It’s time to go. Now my wife can’t help but to shed tears I huddle her closer for one last hug before I abandon this place. I slowly shuffle to the door leaving all my childhood memories behind me. I reach for the polished handle hesitating, trying not to let my feelings swell up inside. I force myself to push on but as soon as my hand grasped the refurbished handle a sharp pain shot up my arm to trigger all my memories. “No no we have to leave, You read the letter. If we don’t I don’t want talk about it98we just have to “what get black mailed out of our own house. Would you rather die or stay. We don’t know that it could just be a joke. well I'm not staying around to find out with or without you. I took a deep thoughtful breath swung the door open to feel the frigid air clash with my melancholic heart. I was just about to step out into the mean harsh world with no home and no wife. I felt the snow crunch under my feet and numb my toes finally I gathered up my courage to push on and leave every thing I’ve ever know in behind me. Every step was making more and more sadness swell up in side me until I couldn’t take it any more I had to let out all my rage and sorrow. I began thumping the earth like a boxing bag and screaming at the same time. Suddenly I became quiet but I was still sharing my crushed hart with the world at full noise ay that moment I noticed it was buck screaming then the noise started to transfer to a yelp. At that moment I knew what was happening it was happening. I stood up sucked in the air and sprinted with all my might back the way I came my heart pounding. sending fog all around me as I baffled out air. I tripped and nose planted into the ground feeling the ice cold snow crawl throughout my body. My legs are aching but I have to make it I have to save her. I start yelling “Mary,Mary”. No answer I stand still glance around, and spot the ancient chimney sticking out of the fog the only thing that hasn’t been replaced. I burst into a fat burning sprint focused on the ancient chimney. I see the sun slowly amble down to the reaching horizon and then it hit me the note, it said it will bring devastation to the house and who ever inside as the sun reaches the horizon. 2 day’s later...
I idle down to grab a couple of tulips lay on the grave clearly engraved Miss Meary age 82. I fall to my knee’s in devastation thinking this could have been her. Suddenly I feel a warm reassuring hand fall on my shoulder “I know”.
